Approximately a half dozen fire departments were called to the state Department of Transportation garage in New Canaan to battle flames Friday morning.
The garage is located on Gerdes Road near the Merritt Parkway. Fire officials say the fire began around 4 a.m. Crews from Stamford and Darien assisted the New Canaan fire department to douse the flames.
Fire officials believe the fire started in one of the bays and spread to at least three DOT trucks, which were heavily damaged. Firefighters are concerned that the building may not be stable. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
