Bridgeport firefighters spent part of the day Monday digging a man out of the mud in Ash Creek.
Authorities say Luis Casalduc called them on his cellphone. He says he got stuck during low tide and realized he could not pull himself out.
Casalduc says he has been going to Ash Creek, near the Bridgeport-Fairfield line, every day for the past 55 years. He plucks worms out of the shallow creek to use for bait when he goes fishing.
Casalduc says he tried to use a pitchfork to get out, but it didn't work. Firefighters say it took about five minutes to put down wood planks and dig Casalduc out.
Despite the incident, Casalduc says he will continue search for worms at Ash Creek, but he'll be a little more careful from now on.
