Local businesses in Oxford destroyed by deadly flooding are asking the public for help.
A town preschool says its building is completely ravaged after more than five feet of water from the nearby Little River rushed through its walls Sunday.
“My teachers walked here the first day because the roads were closed,” says Creative Starts Learning Center Director Marta Saklawska. “They helped us cleanup, remove everything, save everything we can for memories.”
Saklawska says the day care was preparing to start the school year next week.
“It’s going to be a big adjustment the next couple weeks and months until everything is rebuilt, but we got this. We’re Oxford strong.”
Other businesses in the same plaza have also launched fundraising campaigns to cover cleanup costs.
“Twenty years of blood, sweat, and tears,” owner of Rose’s Family Restaurant Agim Mamudov says. “Everything is gone.”
Creative Starts Learning Center says it’s working with the Board of Education to find a temporary location for its preschoolers by the start of the school year.
