A Marine veteran and organ donor
from Stamford will be donating a part of his liver to a 7-month-old girl.
John Rubino has given plasma, blood
and one of his kidneys in 2019 to a Stamford resident.
In just eight days, he'll be
donating again - only this time, he's considered an altruistic donor.
Rubino says does not know anything
about the family he will be donating to, just that without his liver the baby's
condition is terminal.
"Here we are in 2022, and I'm
a match for a 7-month-old baby girl," Rubino says.
The procedure will take place on March
2 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.
This donation will make him a
double donor.
"There
are less than 50 people in the last 30 years of transplantation in the United
States that have done this," Rubino says.
Rubino is also an
organ donor ambassador for Yale New Haven Health, where he spends his time
advocating the importance of being an organ donor.
