There was a special homecoming Wednesday for a Fairfield woman who spent 59 days in the hospital fighting COVID-19.
Magaly Forero was admitted to St. Vincent's Medical Center in late March. She was taken there by ambulance from her home in Fairfield. Two months later, she was finally well enough to leave the hospital, and dozens of loved ones were there to see it.
The 47-year-old spent 29 days in a coma and 38 days on a ventilator.
Loved ones say she has an underlying liver condition and doctors weren't sure she'd make it.
The celebration Wednesday extended from the hospital entrance to Forero's home where balloons and signs welcomed her back.
"They kept me going, and that's why I'm here today," she says.
Forero, her husband and two sons thanked everyone for their support. She credits the nurses at St. Vincent's Medical Center with getting her through the tough times.
"There's no way I'll ever be able to thank them," she said. "And we should be thankful for them, for their efforts and their undying support and care for the patients.
Mauricio Forero said he leaned on his faith the past 59 days, calling his wife's recovery a miracle.
