A wanted fugitive who was on the run 48 years is back behind bars after he was caught living in plain sight in Connecticut.
The U.S. Marshals Service says Robert Stackowitz, 71, was found in Sherman.
Authorities say Stackowitz has been on the run since 1968 when he escaped from a prison in Georgia while serving time for robbery.
Neighbors say he ran a boat repair business from his home.
According to investigators, Stackowitz's application for Social Security played a role in his capture.
A regional task force found a copy of his Connecticut driver's license and compared the photo to the one it had on file.
Stackowitz is being held at the Bridgeport Correctional Center and is expected to be sent back to Georgia to face charges.
