An online fundraiser for a woman critically injured in a car crash last week has raised almost $20,000 in six days.
Melissa Kirkpatrick had just moved to Easton from Florida after taking a job at Stamford Hospital.
She was struck head-on Saturday on Highway 59 while on her way to the grocery store.
Doctors say the 39-year-old woman suffered spinal cord damage and they are not sure if she will ever walk again.
Her husband is an Iraq War veteran who's had three back surgeries and can't work. He's not sure what will happen next.
"She was a go-getter. She had a lot of hopes and dreams and was moving up the corporate ladder. It's just difficult," he told News 12.
Melissa's mother is staying with the family to help look after their four children while she continues to recover at the Yale New Haven Hospital intensive care unit.
No charges have been filed against the other driver involved in the crash.
