Hundreds of mourners filled Cathedral of Praise on the South End of Bridgeport Friday to say their final farewells to Anyia Tucker, 21, and her daughter, Na'Leia Tucker, who was just weeks away from her second birthday. "My daughter and granddaughter were amazing people -- and we want to thank everybody for their love and support," said Andrea Edwards, who broke down in tears while speaking with News 12.
The mom and daughter -- along with seven others from the same family -- were killed in Belle Glade, Florida on Aug. 7 when the SUV they were traveling in careened off the road before flipping over and coming to rest in a canal, police said.
A 10th occupant survived. The family members -- who were all from or had ties to Bridgeport -- were on a birthday weekend when the tragedy took place. "I want my daughter and grandbaby to be remembered for their beautiful spirits," Edwards said. A memorial service for all nine victims is scheduled for next week in Bridgeport, the family said.
