Inspired by many special women in her life, Sandy Hook textile artist Liz Alpert Fay decided to honor them by "hooking" their portraits.
Her medium is traditional rug hooking, and the portraits are as large as 8 feet tall and even 18 feet long.
A new exhibit, "Ordinary/Extraordinary Women," makes its first stop at the Silvermine Art Center in New Canaan.
Sixteen larger than life hand-hooked portraits are on view until July 5.
