Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was in Newtown today pushing for what she calls "common sense gun laws."
Newtown is the 20th stop in the former congresswoman's Vocal Majority Bus Tour, which will hit 42 states by the time it wraps up on Election Day.
The tour is designed to highlight the impact of being a gun violence prevention voter this November, according to Giffords.
Giffords was a part of a round table discussion of about 70 people that was held in Newtown today. It included local and national elected officials, as well as activists talking about how the country has responded since the Sandy Hook tragedy.
Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty says Connecticut has some of the strongest gun laws in the country but the country is in need of new national laws.
"This is not an act of nature, these tragedies are not inherent. We can find ways to support the second amendment for lawful gun owners and save lives" says Esty.
