General Motors told 1,100 of its dealers across the U.S. Friday that it won?t be renewing their franchise agreements due to weak sales.

News 12 Connecticut checked in with nearly every GM dealership in southwestern Connecticut Friday and none reported getting pink slips. However, GM says more franchise cutbacks are yet to come.

Leo Karl, of Karl Chevrolet in New Canaan, says he likely won?t know if his dealership is on the chopping block until it happens.

?I remain upbeat and positive and expect to be a survivor, but you have to be a little bit nervous," Karl says.

Karl Chevrolet was started more than 80 years ago by Leo Karl?s grandfather. He says the dealership is what identifies his family.

General Motors says it is looking to close 2,600 dealerships by the end of 2010, or about 40 percent of its total dealerships. GM spokeswoman Susan Garontakos says the company won?t make the list of dealers to be cut public, instead leaving the decision to release information to individual business owners.

On Thursday, Chrysler announced it would be closing 789 of its dealerships across the country, including Crest Dodge in Woodbridge.
