Gov. Ned Lamont was in Weston Tuesday to pitch his controversial school consolidation plan to local leaders.

The governor worked to make it clear that his plan is different from two other proposals that are on the table. Lamont says his plan would not require smaller school districts to combine. Instead it would create financial incentives to encourage mergers and shared services.

 

"We spend more money outside of the classroom then in the classroom," says Lamont. "We are one of the only states to do that. God bless us. You've got 169 towns and over 200 districts. That is costing us a fortune."

Republican leaders from Darien, Fairfield and Wilton were on hand to hear what the governor had to say. Some of the Republicans say they feel like progress was made.
