Gov. Ned Lamont says he'll lay out specific regulations for businesses that are reopening on May 20 in about a week.
In order for these businesses to reopen on May 20, Gov. Lamont has says certain criteria needs to be met, including, a 14-day decline in hospitalizations, sufficient contract tracing, adequate hospital capacity, an adequate supply of personal protective equipment, and an increase in COVID-19 testing.
Gov. Lamont believes Connecticut is on the right track toward reaching its goals.
However, state Sen. Saud Anwar, who's also a doctor, argued that May 20 might be too soon and that Connecticut officials should look to southern states who are reopening now as a model indicator over the next two weeks.
Saud says he fears the virus could have resurgence there, but officials note that although retail stores and business are beginning to reopen, residents in states like Georgia are still being cautious.
Meanwhile, Connecticut's Education Commissioner, Miguel A. Cardona, is expected to make an announcement today on whether to keep schools closed until the remainder of the school year because of COVID-19.
