Greenwich police officials announced that 12 more officers will be assigned to domestic violence cases to help victims get out of abusive situations.
In the past, Greenwich Police Lt. Rick Cochran says he has been the only person handling domestic violence cases coming into the department. He alone was in charge of making follow-up phone calls to victims and helping them obtain restraining orders.
Cochran says the dozen new officers arrive just in time for the economic crisis, which has been putting a strain on many families.
?Recently, we just had two or three domestic violence [cases], and all of them had to do with bills that were unpaid or financial issues, or losing jobs,? Cochran says.
Police say many people do not realize that after larceny, domestic violence is the second most investigated crime in Greenwich.
