Greenwich police say a car drove through the front window of Makerie Cafe in Cos Cob, causing significant damage.
They say a woman in the parking lot accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes, slamming into the building.
Luckily, the cafe was closed for the day so no one was injured – it remains closed as a result of the damage.
Owner Kirstin Butler says she has been touched by the support the Greenwich community has shown her by coming out to help her clean up.
"The outpouring of kindness, it hurts my heart. You know, it makes me feel so good that these people took their time on a holiday to come out and help me and fix it up and try and get back up-and-running,” said Butler.
Butler says the cafe should reopen in a few days once the structure is deemed safe.
"I don't have words to describe how very grateful I am for them. I didn't even ask them to do anything, they just came and helped. They really did, and I love them for that."
She also mentioned the dangerous intersection on Valley Road just outside the restaurant, which she says is a hot-spot for car crashes and pedestrian accidents.
