The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program held a celebration for its 40th anniversary.

The program offers 14 and 15-year-old students a summer job opportunity and teaches practical employment skills.

Teens planted trees and worked to revitalize Byram Beach Park as part of the event.

Monica Bruning, director of Human Services Programs in Greenwich, said, "A lot of them say the best part about the program is meeting new kids and teens, and learning from them. Also, learning what it's like to actually work, they have to show up on time, they have to dress appropriately, they get their first paycheck."

This summer the program plans to plant 40 trees throughout Greenwich.

Over the past four decades more than 3,000 teens have taken part in the conservation program.
