Halloween is Thursday!
If you're looking for ways to keep your kids safe this Halloween, Dr. Magna Dias, chair of pediatrics at Bridgeport Hospital, has some tips for you.
"If you have a light-colored costume, you're probably going to be OK at night,” she said. “The light will reflect off of the costume. But if it's a dark costume, you're going to want to make sure you put some reflective tape or have a flashlight."
Dr. Dias also says that trick-or-treaters should disregard candy that is not well wrapped.
The doctor says to be on the lookout for teal pumpkins in front of homes.
"Families will know that you are giving stuff out for kids that may have a
food allergy or other issues with food," said Dias. Dias says it’s also important to have a conversation with your kids about stranger danger. "We don't go inside people's houses, we don't go inside people's cars," said Dias. Here are other helpful tips from the National Safety Council:
● Opt for nontoxic Halloween makeup over masks.
● Remove all makeup before children go to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation.
● A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds.
