A rehabilitated harp seal in Mystic has been returned to the ocean after completing treatment at Mystic Aquarium. The animal was first rescued Jan. 2 and brought in for care after consuming rocks and shells.
Aquarium staff said harp seals often swallow debris when snow is inconsistent in New England. They said the seal eventually began eating fish on its own again.
The animal was given a clean bill of health before being released back into the water. Footage from the release showed waves as the seal returned to the ocean.
