The Bridgeport man accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a hatchet is being held on $700,000 bond after appearing before a judge in a Connecticut courtroom Monday.
Police say Danny Pagan Berrocales, 42, is facing attempted murder charges.
They say he hit his victim in the head with a hatchet nine times at a home on Orland Street after she told him that she was leaving him.
She was hospitalized in critical condition after the attack, but News 12 has not learned of any update to her condition.
Police say a child was also in the home at the time and witnessed the attack.
One neighbor told News 12 he heard her screaming and called 911.
