Hazmat crews were back in Fairfield today to finish cleaning up a chemical leak that caused evacuations and lockdowns a day earlier.
Fire officials say that a metal-treating plant on Commerce Drive released the toxic chemical gallium trichloride due to chemical overpressurization. Crews entered the facility with metering and monitoring equipment to make sure the air was neutral.
The cleanup is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
