Health experts: Common tick-borne illnesses can look like coronavirus symptoms

As the summer season kicks off, state tick experts say some tick-borne illnesses have similar symptoms to coronavirus.

As the summer season kicks off, state tick experts say some tick-borne illnesses have similar symptoms to coronavirus.
"Fever, headache, sometimes chills, muscle pain, feeling unwell, joint pain and other common symptoms," says Dr. Goudarz Molaei, the Connecticut tick surveillance program director.
It's not just Lyme disease that has similar symptoms to COVID-19. Another illness, called anaplasmosis, also has similar symptoms to coronavirus.
State researchers say the number of ticks is actually down this year, but that's probably because local heath departments haven't turned in as many specimens as they're busy with COVID-19.
