School officials in Westport are asking parents to report symptoms their children may be exhibiting after mysterious illnesses plagued an elementary school last year.

Efforts were made over the summer to clean up Kings Highway Elementary School and ease parents? concerns about mold and other air quality issues.

The chairman of the school?s Special Maintenance Review Committee, Gavin Anderson, says he feels the school is safe because anything that may have been a potential problem was taken care of. However, that doesn?t mean health complaints have disappeared. Anderson says since school began last week, there have been complaints of runny eyes, noses, headaches, migraines and nose bleeds. In all, the complaints total 15; 13 from faculty, two from students.

Officials are urging parents to call the Westport/Weston Health District to report symptoms. They say the calls will be kept confidential.
