High school students in Stamford today got a glimpse of what it's like to work in the field of medicine.
Nonprofits 100 Black Men of Stamford and Future 5 partnered with Stamford Public Schools and Stamford Health to give about 30 students a tour of Stamford Health System.
The goal is to work with nonprofits and public high school students to launch the Health Immersion Program.
Dr. Edward Schuster has been a cardiologist for more than four decades and says there are many jobs in the medical field.
"There's great jobs in medicine that again you can get without a big loan and start making a good salary with good benefits right away," Schuster says.
Tremane Bartley, the vice president of 100 Black Men of Stamford, is always finding creative ways to mentor and guide the youth in the area.
"We do want to place an emphasis on students that are from an unrepresented minority. It's very important, because knowledge is power," Bartley says.
The partnership will allow students to not just see opportunity but hopefully get excited for life after high school.
