A new report to be released this week shows a dramatic spike in the number of young people infected with HIV in Connecticut. T.J. Moore, who was diagnosed with HIV at 25, says the report comes as no surprise. Moore, who has battled the devastating illness for eight years, says the spike in diagnoses is part of an alarming trend that the local gay community must help reverse through safe sex education.Doctors say the HIV infection rate in Connecticut among patients younger than 30 has increased 44 percent over the last three years. HIV specialist Dr. Gary Blick says 80 percent of new patients coming into his practice are younger than 30. Blick says he intends to emphasize safe sex education at his new clinic in Norwalk.
