The Bridgeport Islanders and a Bridgeport nonprofit are teaming up to help the city's homeless population.
A charity hockey game between the team and the Utica Comets Oct. 21 will benefit Alpha Community Services YMCA.
The nonprofit manages an emergency shelter for families and single adults in Bridgeport and offers a wide range of services.
Each year, it also provides permanent supportive housing units for 400 clients.
A fan fest will be held at 4:30 p.m., and people are encouraged to drop off toiletries.
Tickets purchased directly from Alpha will benefit the nonprofit and its clients.
"Anything and everything we can do to help those who need help in the community is fantastic. This is just one of many events that Alpha does over the course of the year, and so this is a great win-win for everyone," says Steven Chin, a board manager of Alpha Community Services YMCA.
Tickets can also be bought by calling 203-345-4825 or emailing Samuel.provost@bridgeportislanders.com
