Traffic was extremely slow on I-95 North Thursday, following a multicar crash earlier in the morning.
I-95 North shut down between exits 36 and 37 from around 7:00 a.m. until reopening at nearly 11:00 a.m.
Connecticut DOT said traffic was backed up for more than 3 miles.
Steve Bromberg says he's been redirected from I-95 to the Merritt and back again.
"We got Apple maps, we got Google maps, we got Waze, they are all telling us the same thing, which is go back to New York," he says.
Gerard Bernacchia says he sat in that 3-mile backup earlier. This holiday weekend he's not going anywhere.
"We do our traveling on off holidays. For that very reason. The confusion, the crowds," said Bernacchia.
Drivers who are braving the long haul Thursday say the destination will be worth the journey.
