You can't win if you don't play.

With the Powerball jackpot over $1 billion, plenty of people are racing to buy tickets ahead of Wednesday night's drawing.

“$1.3 billion, I could make a budget on that," Peter Helt says. "Holy cow!”

It's the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot ever, and people at the Exxon gas station on Post Road East in Westport are hopeful they've got the golden ticket.

"We don’t play the lottery, but a couple of us decided ‘Why not try it?’" says Maria Carnevale-Fuligni, of Southport. "I bought one for my work partner and one for myself, too!"

What would people do with all that dough?

“I’d buy a little house somewhere," says Tom Kashetta, of Westport. "I'd buy a nice new pickup truck and give the rest of it away."

The next drawing is Wednesday night at 10:59 p.m.
