A recent decision by Home Depot in New Rochelle to ban soliciting from customers on the property has had a significant effect on local day laborers
A large group of migrants had been aggressively soliciting customers, according to reports. This decision affects dozens of day laborers who have been coming to the store daily for decades in search of work.
Edgar Leon, a day laborer, emphasized the hardworking nature of the individuals seeking employment at the store. He highlighted that many of them take on jobs that others may find too challenging.
One of the laborers was arrested last month for trespassing, leading to a subsequent protest. Home Depot clarified its stance, stating that it has a no solicitation policy and prohibits loitering on its premises.
Efforts are still ongoing to obtain comments from the New Rochelle police and the city administration.
