A home health aide accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry from an East Setauket family has been arrested.

Jackquilin Smith, of Medford, was an employee of the Hicksville-based agency Homewatch CareGivers.

She was working at the residence of an 80-year-old woman and her 58-year-old daughter, who suffers from a degenerative neurological disorder.

The family contacted police after noticing jewelry missing. Investigators say Smith took items valued around $9,850 from late April to late May.

Following the investigation, Suffolk police apprehended Smith at her home on Friday afternoon and charged her with grand larceny.

She is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

Anyone who believes they may also be a victim is urged to call 631-854-8652.
