A 56-year-old homeless man appeared in court Monday in Greenwich to face charges stemming from a break-in.
Police say Wallace Brabham allegedly broke into a Greenwich house Friday while the owner was inside. The home?s owner then ran out of the house and called 911 from her cell phone.
Police happened to be nearby and say they saw Brabham run out of the back door. Police gave chase, even over a 10-foot wall, and eventually arrested him. According to police, Brabham broke his ankle during the chase. He was in a wheelchair during his arraignment
Investigators say Brabham is wanted for similar crimes in Stamford, Fairfield, Woodbridge and New Haven. According to authorities, he has been on the run for years in southwestern Connecticut. Bond was set at $1 million.
?Obviously with the five outstanding warrants he?s not one to show up at police headquarters, so that?s the reason why they put a million dollar bond over him,? says Greenwich Police Lt. Richard Cochran.
The suspect?s public defender says his client is homeless and unemployed.
Brabham faces harsher penalties for the alleged break-in since someone was home at the time. He also faces charges of forgery, using a false name and interfering with a police officer.
