Some quick-thinking Milford hotel employees helped police catch an alleged gas station robber Thursday morning.
Police say 35-year-old Peter Barone, of East Haven, partially covered his face and showed a knife while robbing a Sunoco gas station. After the robbery, authorities say Barone struck a police cruiser and led police on a car chase. According to police, Barone later abandoned his car on I-95 and trudged his way through a swamp.
Hyatt Place Hotel employees say Barone came into the lobby and asked them to call a cab. However, the hotel owner says his workers were suspicious because Barone was wet. They called police instead.
Police say Barone is also suspected of other gas station and convenience store robberies in Milford and West Haven.
