Hundreds of group home workers strike over 'poverty-level' wages

The union is asking for $25 an hour wages, affordable health care and retirement funding.

Hundreds of group home workers across the state are on strike for higher wages.
The New England Health Care Employees Union, which represents around 1,700 caregivers on strike, is calling on state lawmakers for an additional $400 million in Medicaid funding. The union is asking for $25 per hour wages, affordable health care and retirement funding.
The New England Health Care Employees Union says strike notices for an indefinite work stoppage have been sent to six agencies that provide care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Strikes were planned at nine locations Wednesday, including at a group home in Bridgeport.
