Police are searching for the man who robbed a Fairfield TD Banknorth early Thursday morning as employees were opening the branch.
Police say they received a call from a customer who was coming in through the back entrance of the bank. The customer saw a man with a gun and a ski mask running out. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after that call at approximately 8 a.m.
Authorities say there were two employees inside the bank at the time of the incident, and one of them was locked in the cage area outside the vault by the robber. She was released immediately by her co-worker who had a key to the cage, police say.
Fairfield police have not yet determined how much money the robber got away with. The bank was closed for several hours following the incident, but reopened before noon.
According to Capt. Robert Comers, of the Fairfield Police Department, the bank workers describe the robber as a male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and between 25 and 30 years old. They say he was wearing a white shirt with long sleeves, blue jeans, a white baseball cap and a black ski mask.
In the surveillance photo that was released by the police, the suspect is seen holding up a red duffle bag.
During the course of the investigation, Fairfield police brought in a K-9 dog from Shelton in an attempt to track down the robber, but no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information regarding the TD Banknorth robbery is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department at (203) 254-4844.
