‘I will never ride the train again.’ Brooklyn subway shooting victim continues to deal with trauma, recovery
It’s been three days since a gunman shot and injured nearly a dozen people inside the 36th Street subway station. Now, one of the shooting victims says the event has forever changed his life.

Ten people were shot and 29 others were injured in Tuesday’s attack. Houari Benkada is recovering from surgery and says he will never ride the subway again.
He tells News 12 he is lucky to be alive. “I am blessed to be here, to be honest, I could’ve been gone,” said Benkada.
Benkada says he was sitting just a seat away from accused gunman Frank James, and was one of the first to be shot.
Benkada is expecting another surgery in a week and a half, bedridden but says he is haunted by the sound of gunshots.
“I will never ride the train again,’ said Benkada.
He says he will stick to driving to work when he eventually recovers, which could take up to four months.
