Community members gathered at Audubon Greenwich Sunday to raise awareness of childhood cancer at the third annual Indian Summer Children's Festival.

The event, which benefits The Willow Project, comes during Children’s Cancer Awareness Month.

"The Willow Project is really about supporting families and their first couple years when they find out that one of their children has been diagnosed with cancer,” says event organizer Heather Lowthert.

It was created after 7-year-old Lynn Willow Gulli was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mother was forced to quit her job and take care of her daughter full time.

Audubon Greenwich offered a place for Lynn to play during her treatment. 

It hosted the festival Sunday, which included musicians, artists and businesses donating their time.

Cindy Moss, Lynn’s mother said her daughter was running around and celebrating at the event to show people that they can overcome cancer.

Three weeks ago, Lynn had her final chemotherapy treatment and she is back in school

The Willow Project says it wants to pay it forward to more families for years to come.
