The 46th Norwalk Oyster Festival kicks off Friday night at Veteran's Memorial Park.
Organizers say they're expecting upwards of 50,000 people for the weekend-long event.
"The average age for a festival put on by a nonprofit is seven and a half years," Oyster Festival chairman Mike Reilly says. "We've been doing it for 46 years, so that’s big."
The event raises money for the Norwalk Seaport Association, which restores the 156 year-old Sheffield Island Lighthouse.
Organizers say 40,000 local oysters will be provided, and dozens of food tents will showcase different types of cuisines from around the world.
"To get the community together to enjoy our beautiful parks and have local oysters," Reilly says. "It’s tremendous."
The event runs all weekend, and kids get in for free on Sunday.
