Manhattan College basketball coach Barry Rohrssen is taking time away from the busy summer recruiting season to teach young players the fundamentals of the game.
Rohrssen, who gained the reputation as a top recruiter during his career, is hosting two clinics for young Bronx talent. Players ages 8 to 18 are running drills, playing the game and receiving instruction from the coach and his players.
"Fundamentals are the key to basketball," Rohrssen said. "And you can do it while having fun."
The program is also having an impact on Jaspers players. "It feels good to be able to teach these little kids," said Devon Austin.
Besides helping to develop young talent, Rohrssen has high hopes for his own team. He said he hopes the squad, which was made up of seven freshmen last year, will develop more chemistry.
