Wednesday was Jersey Mike's annual Day of Giving. The company made a major contribution to help kids with critical illnesses in Connecticut.
Fairfield was one of 34 Jersey Mike's locations in Connecticut donating 100% of all sales to Make-A-Wish Connecticut.
"Today is our 15th annual Day of giving in Fairfield," said Jersey Mike’s Fairfield owner Mitch Thomson. Jersey Mike's in Fairfield is hoping to serve a thousand sandwiches Wednesday to grant wishes for Make-A-Wish kids. "Being able to, you know, make a difference in these kids’ lives has been monumental for us. We wouldn't want it any other way," said Thomson. The prep started early in the morning and won't wrap up until late in the night.
"It's one of those bell-to-bell days, you know. We got our earliest guys in at 3 or 4 in the morning and probably plan to be here until 11 p.m. today," said Thomson.
It was one of Make-A-Wish Connecticut's biggest fundraisers.
"It's a big deal. With all the wishes that we have waiting, we need this support more than anything," said Kim Smith with Make-A-Wish Connecticut.
Last year, Make-A-Wish Connecticut was able to grant 58 wishes from the one day. Make-A-Wish Connecticut is hoping for even more this year.
"About 50% of our wishes are Disney, and it’s just a great experience. But then we have some very unique wishes. I have a kid who wants to be a blacksmith, so we're trying to set him up with a blacksmith station," said Pam Keough with Make-A-Wish Connecticut.
There are currently more than 300 Connecticut children waiting for their wishes to be granted.
Anyone who made a $5 donation Wednesday got a free regular sub redeemable through April and May.
