Former Bridgeport mayor and convicted felon Joe Ganim filed papers Thursday to start running for his old office again.

Ganim filed paperwork to form an exploratory committee to run for mayor. The move allows him to begin fundraising.

He says he has a proven track record of helping Bridgeport despite those charges.

Political science professor David Greenberg, of Fairfield University, says Ganim could be a viable candidate. Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, however, says Ganim should not run because he betrayed the public's trust.

Ganim says he will make a final decision sometime over the next few weeks about whether to run in a Democratic primary against Finch and other candidates.
