Jury trials are still months away because of the coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday, court leaders updated state lawmakers on the COVID-19 response. There is a 28% increase in criminal case backlogs, mostly due to traffic violations.
Court leaders also said jury trials won't resume until at least Sept. 1, and possibly much later than that.
Court leaders say the backlog could have been a lot worse, but they've actually been able to do most hearings virtually, which could become a permanent change.
