The issue of Catholic hospitals being forced to dispense emergency contraception was the focus of a public hearing Monday at the state capitol.
A bill in front of the General Assembly would require all hospitals in Connecticut to provide the morning-after pill to victims of rape or incest. The state has historically given its four Catholic hospitals religious exemption.
Governor Jodi Rell (R-CT) has said she doesn't think the legislation is needed so long as the Catholic hospitals refer victims to places where they can receive the drug.
