Lawmakers in Hartford have proposed legislation to make it less expensive for parents to purchase clothes for their kids.
Parents and store owners urged lawmakers Wednesday to exempt children's clothes under $100 from state sales tax.
"It gives families a break. It will help families balance their household budgets, making fundamental items, children's clothing more affordable," says Tim Phelan from the CT Retail Network.
Until 12 years ago, all clothing under $50 was exempt.
Now, Connecticut only offers a sales tax holiday in August.
