The granddaughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is helping spread awareness about breast cancer following the death of her daughter.
Milford resident Julia Arnaz's 31-year-old daughter Desiree Anzalone died of the disease in September. Due to the pandemic, the family waited seven months before finally dedicating her headstone, which they did in a ceremony just two weeks ago.
Arnaz is hoping to encourage women in the same age group as her daughter to get screened for breast cancer.
"There is hope," Arnaz says. "My daughter, God needed her so I don't want anybody to lose hope."
Sen. Richard Blumenthal honored Arnaz for using her daughter's legacy to try and help others.
Arnaz says knowing that her daughter is a "working angel" keeps her going. She says Anzalone bears a striking resemblance to the beautiful "I Love Lucy" star.
Arnaz tells News 12 she's grateful to the thousands of people who have reached out to her family from all over the world, sending their good wishes in memory of her daughter.
