It's Thursday. That's time for main street, Connecticut when we showcase different cities and towns in our area and all that they have to offer. News 12 Connecticut's Mark. Sudha is in Bridgeport this week. His first stop, Frankie's diner. How's breakfast looking? Well, we're waiting for breakfast to come out Becky, but soon enough it will be here, Frankie's Diner. If you've ever been here is an institution in Bridgeport. Been here since the 19 thirties. The man behind it all is behind the counter. Here he is. Nick Roses. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? Welcome. Welcome to Frankie's. You get your coffee. You're up and enthusiastic. Your hair looks great. Thank you. So tell me about, tell me about this place. This place has been here since the early 19 thirties. Not exactly sure what date, but I do have news clippings of when it was here. Um, my father's partner took it over in 1946 when he came back from World War Two. my dad came here in 1972 and started working here and then became a partner after a couple of years and I started working here when I was nine years old. Uh I took over in 2000, and 24 years later here I am and I'm still as young as I was back then. And you know, I mean, you're such a people person but you need that in this kind of abyss. You do, you do, you do and you, you do have your grumpy days but people know you and when people know you, they're happy with that. That's ok. So, I mean, the great thing about a diner too is, I mean, you know, you can eat breakfast all day long. You can, you can we have breakfast 24 7. We're open on the weekends 24 7. We're thinking of coming back 24 7 altogether. I think people are like that. I think people will like that and I think we have a demand. People are used to a diner being 24 hours and I think we have a service here that we can provide in the night time again because we have the hospital up the street. We have a couple of factories that are open. So those people need us. Hey, tell her now we, we only got about, you know, 30 seconds left here. We're, we're waiting for those pancakes and home fries right now. Let's take them out and uh and you, you got the espresso going here. It is actually gonna wake us up a little bit. Yeah, look around that corner. See what's going on with, with those pancakes. I heard they're fluffy. Oh, there we go. That's gonna wake me right up. Yeah. So, I mean, aside from that, what, what, what are folks coming in for? Uh, so one of our specialties that we brought back starting today is our home fries. We've been known for our home fries for many, many years. Uh, we moved to a shredded potato year about a year ago and now we're coming back with our home fries starting today. Um, and we have our pancakes. We have our coffee, we have our, our coffee food. Amazing. Our espressos and our cappuccinos and our fresh orange juice. Oh, pancakes are here. Here we go. Oh, look at those, baby. I'm gonna have to save some of these for Kenny though. Sorry, I can't just dive right in. All right, Becky. That's the story here. We'll be at the zoo in our next hour. It's Thursday. It's time for main Street, Connecticut when we showcase different cities and towns in our area and all that, they have to offer. News. 12 Connecticut's Mark. Sudal is in Bridgeport this week and he is at the Beardsley Zoo at his stop throughout the city. And, oh, gosh, where are you right now? Mark? Well, we, we are here with Greg Dan Show. Of course, he's been here forever. 4550 years. Can I, can I hold one of these little guys? Hello? Are you? Ok? Yeah, it's ok. Oh, you're hungry. Good morning. He's part of the, uh, Harry Pop family, which is right over here and they're having breakfast right now. You can see, um, these are guinea hog pigs are ok actually a week ago. And so this is what we call. You can see how active they are. Guinea hogs are really important for the zoo, but also important for the world because they're actually an endangered species, which people don't realize that endangered species means that they could become extinct. And even though they're a domestic breed, they're still endangered because people don't work with them anymore. So bear zoo has actually brought them back from the brink of extinction and has now been working with them for many years and we're really happy to have guinea babies again this year. That's great. Now, there's so many things to talk about here. The monarch butterflies, I'm fascinated by this. You tag them here and then they wind up in Mexico. Yes. The monarch butterflies right now are starting to migration. And so right now it's tagging time. So actually if you can go on our website and on our Facebook page, we're doing training and how to tag mono butterflies. Wow, people. Really? It's, it's an art a little bit, a little tiny tag goes on them and those, that tag is in, marked down in a book logged in it's citizen science at its finest because you can do this with your family and those monarch butterflies will then fly to Mexico. We've actually had a monarch butterfly that was the tag was located in Mexico 3000 miles away. It was tagged here in Bridgeport and they found it in Mexico and in the 30 seconds we have left. You have an event coming up this week. We have, we have this weekend, we have pollinator Garden Pollinator program this weekend. So come and learn about pollinators. We have fairy tale days coming up in another month, come down and see our new prairie dog habitat. We just we did it. You can pop up with the tunnels. It's great to see those pra dogs face to face and really come and see Dorsey Dozier is a brand new red panda. He's only, he just turned one year old and he is exciting to watch Greg. It's Thursday time for main street, Connecticut when we showcase different cities and towns in our area and all they have to offer news. 12 Connecticut's Mark Z has been in Bridgeport this morning for us now. He's at the Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum. Good morning, Mark. Good morning, Becky. We're high up in here here in the trees. I'm all harnessed up at uh an early morning wedgie here to start the day and joining me this morning is Chris Moon. It was so nice to have us here. Thank you so much. It is a pleasure. Thank you. Tell us about all this cable that you have here. Well, here we are at the Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum and we have 100 and 92 course elements up in the trees held together with about 90,000 ft of cable. So that's about 17.9 miles and everything we built is slightly overbuilt. Like this cable, you're going to zip line on or you might zip line maybe that holds 26,000 pounds. So everything is over and the parents go. Thank you very much. I mean, I had some pancakes earlier. But I think I'm ok on that end. This is so great because it encourages people to get outdoors and it's a great bonding experience. Talk about that. We have climbers from five years old to 95 years old, whether it's a couple, a family, schools, scout groups, corporate groups and they all work together, give one another confidence and cheer and support. Well, making their comfort zone a little bit larger. And, I mean, you've had people from all over the world, all over the world. Just yesterday. We had a group from Buffalo, New York, Simon, Seattle, Washington. The farthest I've had is from Israel, comes and visit his relatives here and whenever he comes, he to climb, we have another gentleman comes from Switzerland a few times a year and you have another park basically uconn up at 195 and then others around the country all around. Yeah, we have a whole bunch of them. So, Nashville, Tennessee, we have them at Virginia Beach at the aquarium out on Long Island. It's only 30 miles through the Sound, but it takes three hours to drive there from here. Of course. Right. And then, and heritage out at Cape Cod. We also have 10, that's nice. Wow. So what's the, look on some of the kids' faces when they go on the zip line? Well, when they first walk into the park, look at all this stuff. Where do I go next? And the parents are saying I'm going with you. Ok. Uh, but once they get up in the air excitement and I look at a kid's face and what a parent wants to see is a happy child. And so when you see that smile on their face, I say that's why we're here, that's what they're doing. That's right. And it's a challenge. Some of the elements are physically and mentally. A little bit challenging. Well, you got a great job and it's a great place to be. I'm gonna actually take a little walk here if you don't mind. Go ahead. That's why it's there. Becky. Um, you know, maybe I'll see you later today. I have no idea. But, uh, you know, call my wife and relatives and make sure that they know. At least I appreciate that. Thanks a lot. Are you zip lining?
