It's Thursday. That means it's time for main street, Connecticut. And we are checking out all kinds of fun things in the towns and cities across our area. News 12 Connecticut's Mark Suo. Today is in Westport at the Westport Books, a book on Sinatra. I see. Are you there? Mark my, oh, hey, Becky. Um, yeah, just reading up on Sinatra here. Um, and I want to introduce you to my new friend Katherine Carroll here at the bookshop. How are you? Hi, Mark. Well, how are you today? Welcome to the Westport bookshop. It's a, it's a fantastic spot. You're right across from the Westport library and this is really an extension of that, right? It is an extension of the, of the big, I think everybody might know the Westport library, big book sale. Well, we're an extension of that and we are a nonprofit 501 C A organization with a very special dual mission. Our mission is to support the library and their wonderful programs. But more importantly, we employ adults with disabilities and we give them meaningful employment and we teach them skills that they'll need to work in a retail work environment. So it's very special. That's fantastic. Now, you have a, a big event coming up this weekend, Brad walk. Tell us about that. Yes. So we have many events uh throughout the year and on Saturday, we have one of our events where we partner with other nonprofits is going to be right here on the Green, the Jessup Green in front of the Westport library and across the street from our bookshop. Um, and we are lucky enough to have Dennis o'neill who is a former Westport resident and a well known screenwriter. Um, come and read and sign his book. Thank you very much. It's Thursday. That means it's main street, Connecticut. We're checking out all kinds of things going on in the towns and cities around our area. News 12 Connecticut's Mark Sudal is in Westport today and he's made his second stop this time at the Westport Country Playhouse, Mark Oklahoma where the wind comes whistling through the trees. That's just one of the shows that's coming to the Westport Country Playhouse and joining me now is Beth Husking here from the playhouse. Thanks for being with us. Thank you so much for coming. It's wonderful. Boy, if these seats could talk. Absolutely. The theater was built in 1931. It started, uh as a tryout house for Broadway and then became part of the Straw Hat Circuit. So there were six theaters in that circuit and shows would move throughout the summer around to different theaters. So you'd have 12 weeks of programming every summer and you had, I mean, the famous people that have come through here. Absolutely. In those days, because TV was filmed really only in the year and the summers were off, you could get all the TV, celebrities to come out and do these shows for the summer months. So you had huge names from television downstairs. We've got, you know, William Shatner, Christopher Plummer. Paul Newman worked here in 2004. So you've just got a huge number of people that were able to do that. Um And then in 2004, we renovated and built this theater in the same exact space. Um And so we focused primarily on theater plays and musicals and you got some pretty big events coming up including Bacon and his brother. Right. Absolutely. The Bacon Brothers are coming in July. So we've started focusing on presented events and theatrical shows. So this summer, we've got a little bit of everything. We've got the Pirates of Penzance coming at the end of June. We've got in July a show called They made it a musical which we're creating ourselves and it focuses on big Broadway shows and songs that, you know, and the works that inspired them. So for example, Oklahoma was created after they came to see Green Grow the Lilacs here at the Playhouse. Same with uh my fair lady. They saw Pygmalion here. So those are two shows that will be included. We'll also do some scenes from the Federalist Papers and songs from Hamilton. So that'll be a great family event. Then we've got the Bacon Brothers in July. We've got imagination movers coming up for the kids, which they just released a new album yesterday I heard. So kids are very excited and then we've got Ari Shapiro and Alan Cumming coming with their aoi a considered cabaret show in, uh, November. So we've got a lot and then we'll have our theater shows. It's Thursday. Today is main street Connecticut Day and we are checking in all kinds of fun things across towns and cities. New 12, Connecticut's Mark. Sudal is in Westport today. He is now at Il Pasa in the town and usually sitting down for a meal already. Oh, Becky. Come on. You know, I love to eat and we've got so many good things here to eat and I'm joined by Federico who is uh the master behind all these great things as I talk to you, I'm gonna try uh first try the uh no cats which are actually gnocchi that have been. Yeah, it's uh they are deep fry and that there is a funny story behind because uh when I was sit there and I talk about something new, I went to the kitchen and I asked to the chef, please uh try to fry some gnocchi and they try and uh this is the result and uh I personally love it and we offer to the clients too first week and then just a test and they say this is something that I want when I go, it's so good and, and all your pasta is fresh, right. Uh, all our pasta is fresh. Uh, it's, uh, organic, uh, because, uh, we use, uh, the importer organic flour from Italy. So it's very, very light when you eat the, the pasta, it's, uh, it's very rich but you don't feel heavy when you eat, uh, our fresh pasta. And that rib eye is phenomenal. It's, uh, it's, uh, what we make in Italy. Uh, it's, uh, we use a simple ingredients. Usually we don't overdress uh uh our dishes. So we try to stay very, very simple. Simple. It's uh our secret and people can get this 24 hours a day. Yeah, we import also that machine from uh Italy. It's a vending machine at 24 hours. So if you are uh hungry of pasta during the night, uh midnight and you want to buy some our fresh pasta, you can go there, you have dessert and uh you also have the sauce. So you have the, the meal for, for the night, forget about it. I had to talk to this guy all day. I mean, whatever he says, sounds fantastic. I, I mean, thank you so much for being with us. Becky. I mean, I got my hands full here. I'll try to bring some of this back, but I don't know if there's gonna be much left. I don't hold out much hope on that one, but thanks so much for it. It looks delicious. Ok.
