Malnourished woman, neglected cats found in Fairfield home
Dozens of cats were found neglected in a Fairfield home, authorities say, and some were dead.
Police say the cats lived with an 86-year-old woman who has dementia and is unable to take care of them or herself.
Animal Control officers arrived at the Silver Spring Road home over the weekend after a fire call. They say the house was filled with cats, and they encountered the malnourished woman.
Officials say the bathtubs were full of cat feces and the home carried a strong smell of urine.
The cats have cuts and fleas, and one tested positive for feline AIDS, according to investigators.
Authorities are working to remove the cats. The woman was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center.
