The man accused of crashing his vehicle into a utility pole on Flax Hill Road in Norwalk was arraigned in court today.
Police say 42-year-old James Scates drove his SUV into a utility pole yesterday and then into a home's front porch before attempting to attack officers with a lighting fixture. They say officers were forced to use a Taser to subdue him.
"He then took a light fixture that was on top of a stone wall, snapped it off with his bare hands and then held it to make like he was going to strike my officer who responded," says Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling.
Officials say they believe Scates was under the influence of drugs because he told officers that he thought he was in a video game.
