Man charged with fatally stabbing ex-girlfriend in New Haven

A man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend inside her New Haven apartment was arrested on Wednesday.
Officers responded to the sixth floor of the building on Orange Street after receiving a report from the victim, now identified as Tisha Marinoccio.
Police say she also told dispatchers that the suspect lived inside the building and left the scene with the weapon.
The 42-year-old was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Matthew Almontes was apprehended outside of the building as officers canvassed the area. They also found the knife used in the attack inside a dumpster in the rear alley.
Police say surveillance footage showed him entering the victim’s residence and leaving through the back of the building.
Almontes faces charges for murder and evidence tampering. He is being held on a $1,500,000 bond.
