A Norwalk man is facing gun charges after police say he tried to hide a weapon while running from officers.
Joseph Ray, 22, was arrested Sunday night on South Main Street for possession of an illegal gun.
Officers say they were routinely patrolling South Main Street when they approached a group of people standing outside a business.
Investigators say when the officers instructed the group to move, Ray ran off and was spotted tossing something into a garbage can.
Officers say they found a loaded .22 caliber handgun in the trash can.
Investigators say Ray does not have a permit to carry a pistol.
Police say Ray is facing a number of gun charges, and was arrested on similar charges in July.
Authorities say they are crediting fellow officers for being pro-active and getting illegal guns off the street.
