A man who killed his mother and dumped her body in a plastic bin was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison.
Darwin "Dee" Jackson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the 2012 slaying of his 34-year-old mother, Tihesha Savage. He was 16 years old at the time.
Prosecutors say Jackson shot his mother while she slept and then beat her over the head with a baseball bat to stop her from twitching.
The defense attorney argued that Jackson had mental health issues and was beaten and sexually abused at home.
